NW School for Deaf

A vibrant façade revitalization.

The Northwest School for Deaf and Hard-of-Hearing Children partners with more than 20 school districts, offers a range of services for children from birth through middle school, and currently serves over 200 Western Washington families annually.

We performed an exterior inspection and evaluated the current condition of the structure. The atrium portion showed signs of water intrusion and wear, which had made its way to the interior of the building. The cedar lap siding was outdated and worn, and the combination of the white base and blue trim gave the building a clinical look. The ornamentation on top of the columns was rusted and roof-level trim was peeling. The overall wear on the exterior of the school was apparent and unattractive.

After Evolution’s evaluation of the building, the team at NWSDHH agreed that it was time for a new envelope, which presented an opportunity to change the façade design.

We started the process with an architectural rendering of the design solution.

This project restored integrity to the building and resulted in a fresh, prismatic exterior to welcome students.
